The past few days my mind has almost constantly been generating tango music in my head (of all music styles!), so in a way I have been listening to that. Endless variations, just appearing from somewhere. And not the fiery, passionate Argentinian tango, but the Finnish schlager style, in the vein of THIS.

It's nothing new, I often hear melodies, riffs, rhythm patterns etc. in my mind (that often don't exist before as such), but I can't say exactly why this personal tango fm station is on now so persistently.

Other than that, I listened to Suuri Shamaani - Mysteerien maailma, while doing some work. Minimalistic ambient that manages to stay interesting. Certain Beherit-esque weirdness is there, even if it's quite different in style.

Kun minä sitten siirrän pois käteni, näet sinä minun selkäpuoleni; mutta minun kasvojani ei voi kenkään katsoa."

I liked that Kali devotional. Because my brain jumps to associations, here are a few: Two western musicians went Tibet and India in the late 00's, to record ritualistic music with the monks. The record is awesome and unique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc0e1KhcBrY

Something more "fun", Ananda Shankar:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6c3VKakOGo

I can't help myself, people need to know about Charanjit Singh. Anyone feeling poorly? Frown inversion :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OFpODr ... J2&index=3

Wow, this one took me by surprise. I'm generally judging ritual music in records often similarly as any other music because I seldom use music in ritual contexts so it's music I interpret like any other form of recorded audial art. This one hit right in to my tastebuds which is rare, usually ritual music is booring and not tickling my bones. The surprise is even greater as I happen to be familiar with Sir Richard Bishop's guitar music and have seen it too cold like it would follow scales rather than inner guidance and search for the vital form.

Heard Gustav Holst's The Planets, op. 32: VII. Neptune, the Mystic from the radio the other day. Rarely have the planetary compositions reached such beautifully fantastic levels, in the literal meaning of the word.

Greatest thing to come out of Australia, since The Road Warrior, Portal. Two records new released in 2021. Hagbulbia surprised me a little bit. It's quite a bleak noise record. More art avantgarde, than metal. Put me in a trance. https://youtu.be/lSWDWGuLRfg
Avow was more "traditional", means it's what I expected a new Portal record to sound like. Sounds like Portal. It's what they are and there will be no compromise: https://youtu.be/kD18p6CQAqE

If Portal works, Imperial Triumphant might also. I found these two almost the same time.

Banger gospel by Reverend James Cleveland and Co - Peace Be Still

While I still get some obnoxious reactions from the disgustingly positive melodies of gospel, this one has such mastery of dynamism of individual performances and between different elements, that I must take my hat off. The choir going against the rhytm just barely leaving a space between there. Fire.

Boards of Canada's Geogaddi and their records before that I come back time after time. Such soothing mix of melancholy and bright melodies. Often times I've found myself seeking somewhat similar melodies but they end up muddy as if coming from a dungeon you never want to return. Melancholy tends to overpower, and there is no brightness. A nod to the masters of blending these two together.

Winter has brought this track back on rotation. A gem in the more recent part of Kate Bush's discography.

Exact opposite of BoC.

Geogaddi is best, but my second pick is The Campfire Headphase. After nine years I'm still hopeful, that there'll be another album.

Something else, that contains a simple magic, Antonio Ruscito, one of the italian techno hypnotists. His mix of original produtions, is one of my favorite records (it's not an album, it's a label's podcast) in recent years: https://youtu.be/Ac7M1_xopTI

After a nearly ten year break, I've started listening to HIM again. Incredibly nostalgic. My partner even bought some of their albums on CD and a Razorblade Romance poster, and we've been laughing so hard about the music videos where Ville Valo looks like some otherworldly sex god, and the other, normal looking dudes are just kind of shyly playing on the background, looking really out of place in a glittering goth ice castle or whatever. I love the kind of music that shuts down all my critical capabilities and turns my brain into sexily angsty vampire mush.
