What kind of deradicalisation programme would you suggest for a troglodyte who doesn't know a single Cure song, or even know what kind of music genre it belongs to? (Perhaps an album suggest or two, before one is fed to frenzied horses of Diomedes?)

It is amazing that one about the same age as I could have missed out The Cure altogether. Thus I somehow would not be surprised if it wasn't your cup of tea, as if you'd enjoy it, you most likely would have picked it up somewhere by now. You would most likely recognize singles like "A forest" or "Friday I'm in love".
I think a sort of highpoint of Cure is the 1989 album "Disintegration", and I think it is also their most sold album. But the band is so versatile that one cannot get the idea by one album alone.

Ohhh, dear. That’s a serious problem and it needs some urgent, professional treatment.
Not listening to The Cure might cause some dangerous comorbidities that should not be underestimated. I would also recommend to start the Cure cure with a initial dose of „Disintegration“ first - maybe half an hour at 60db. If there is no betterment within two weeks, the patient should contact me again for medical advice.

Thank you kindly, "Disintegration" it is, & I will visit the music store right away. (As a cave-dweller I'm an old schooler & a materialist, so I will try to find out a physical album if possible.)
It wouldn't surprise me too much to find out that I have indeed somehow missed a bullseye classic all these years. Perhaps it's about that recently discussed aversion of mine to the "hearing of God" principle, but I have never found my way to music (unlike to literature!) by chance. This is one of the things where I have some autistic part in my brain functioning: I keep listening to some one band extremely closely years & years, completely missing out a plethora of potentially interesting others.

Something else to go drooling psycho over, would be Current 93. David Tibet is an eccentric christian prophet, with a voice that's beautiful and insane, at the same time. Almost everything he, or them have done is great. It's music magic. Will probably be available wherever you purchase "Disintegration".

Ahhh I don't know how I didn't see this beautiful development sooner! Benemal, thank you for the wonderful noise recommendations! I will check them all out. I'm also a huge Current 93 fan. I was obsessed with his obsession of recording Idumea in various forms. The Bonnie Prince Billy version is probably my favourite one out of all of them:

Obnoxion, I'm so excited to hear about a new album! Pornography is probably one of my favourite Cure albums, but Disintegration and Bloodflowers are also so high up there it's very hard to pick a favourite. The Cure is probably one of the best examples of a band with both a light and a dark side. Both equally as delicious.

My favourites at the moment are the albums "Japanese Whispers" and "Head on the Door". But lately I've been mostly listening songs from "17 Seconds" and "Faith". Most of all I adore the magnigicent Gothic pieces like "Crow", "A Forest", "Short Term Effect", "Just One Kiss", "Lullaby", "Other Voices", "Love song", "Push" or "Night like this" etc. But then you have songs like "Caterpillar", "Love Cats" (which was actually suppose to be a song about killing kittens, I've heard....), "Walk", "Why Can't i be you", and "Friday I'm in love". And it always sounds exactly like The Cure. Oh, and "Fascination street" is one of the best songs ever, and the hook is the perfect bass line that remains unchanging throughout the song. I would be happy to just listen the bare bass line for a half an hour straight!

A splendid choice, and I'm glad you like it! The song "Short Term Effect" is one of my all time favourites. The long awaited new album was compared by Robert Smith to "Pornography". So I would not be surprised if we'll be seeing The Cure back on the charts again this year...
